Game Summary

Knights Split Final Series With The Mudcats!!

Sunday, October 27th, final day of the fall regular season, a very cold day. The Knights were expecting to be missing a few players, but not most of them, luckily with the return of Bobby Gruttadauria there were 7 Knights ready to go. Wait a minute, 7, don't you need 9 to play baseball? Yes, luckily loyal fan and father Mr. Pete Alfano Sr. gave the Knights an 8th and with some convincing (15 minutes of down right begging) Paxton Provitera was able to get grad student friend Dwan Gerido out of bed to make 9.

Once all 9 players were ready the double header began; oh yeah, sorry I didn't mention that it was 2 games Dwan, thanks again. Billy Nestor took the mound for the Knights pitching 4 innings with a sore arm. At the end of the fourth with the Knights down 8-2 Paxton Provitera took the mound finishing the game.

After a slow 5 innings the Knights bats began to wake up. Paxton Provitera led off with a double and Pete Alfano Sr. continued his 1.000 on base percentage (to this point Pete was 1 for 1 with 1 walk) with his second walk to bring up the top of the lineup. Pete Alfano then drew a walk, loading the bases for Billy Nestor who proceeded to clear them with a grand slam. With the score now 9-6 in favor of the Mudcats, Paxton allowed 1 quick run, but got the Knights back up to bat down by 4 in the top of the seventh.

Kenny McFadden led of with a single, Paxton doubled for the second time in 2 innings, knocking Kenny in. Pete Alfano then homered with 2 outs making the score 10-9. Billy Nestor continued the inning by continuing his hot streak with a single. He took both second and third on consecutive wild pitches, then scored the tying run on a pick off attempt of Hector Rolon, who had walked, at first base.

In the eighth inning, Paxton was able to retire the side 1-2-3. The bottom of the inning began with 2 singles by Richie Cave and Kenny McFadden, then, unbelievably, Paxton was walked intentionally to load the bases. Richie Cave was able to score the go ahead run on a wild pitch, taking the pressure off the bottom of the lineup. With 1 out, Pete Alfano Sr., the new Knights' pinch hitter, stepped to the plate singling in Kenny McFadden. With a 2 run lead, Paxton was able to sit the Mudcats down 1-2-3 with 2 strikeouts.

Game 2 of the day saw Paxton take the mound again, wow his arm hurts now. Another exciting game ensued, with the Knights tying the game at 6 in the bottom of the sixth, unfortunately the Mudcats scored a run in the seventh from which the Knights were unable to recover.
