Sunday at LaSalle the Cardinals upgraded their lineup to a more recognizable one, whereas the Knights added a few new faces and some very hung over ones to make up a 9 man team. Rob Maier took the mound to close out the game as the teams and umpires agreed to finish the fifth inning to make the game official. After the Knights went down without scoring, the Cardinals, with 2 outs, scored 3 runs. Now if you're counting right that's 7-7, well Paxton didn't count right so the game was declared over as a Cardinals victory 7-6...more to come???
At the conclusion of that game the Knights remained on the field to become the home team of the next and what was decided to be the only game. This game would also be one of 9 innings (more time for the hung over and tired to rest and watch football as well as the umpires not really doing extra work). Rob Maier stayed on the mound pitching the first Knights win of the fall (other than forfeits). Rob went 8 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 13. The Knights had some fun, even though everyone tried to avoid being directly in front of Richie due to the possibility of projectile vomit erupting at any moment. By the third inning the Knights had awakened scoring 4 runs on 3 singles from Pete Alfano, Hector Rolon and Kenny McFadden. The scoring continued with 1 run in each of the next 2 innings off a Rob Maier double/John Bosch single and a Kenny McFadden homerun. Tommy Reilly closed the door in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning with 1 strikeout and plenty of knuckle balls...thank g-d he didn't have to pitch 7 innings of a second game!!
Knights Knotes:
* Bosch, Tommy and especially Richie made it through the game!!!
* Bobby Gruttadauria came by after the game had ended. He's in a cast until mid October, but he wants the knights to test out his new TPX...we'll do what we can!!!
