Knights' defense tries to give it away; pitchers don't!!

The Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by way of the stolen base and double merry-go-round set up when Sean McGuire led off the game with a walk, stole second, and third then walked home when Mike Urtnowski doubled off the right field fence. Mike came home when Tommy Reilly continued the ride by doubling off the left field fence, stealing third and coming home on an errant throw. Pitching then took over the game on both sides when Mike Rockwood (Temco Bulldogs) and Greg Holmes (Knights) struck out 11 of the next 12 batters. The spark plugs continued to fire for the Knights, with McGuire, Urtnowski and Reilly contributing 5 hits, all 6 RBIs, 3 doubles, 4 walks and 2 homeruns while scoring 8 of the 9 Knights runs.

Greg Holmes dominated through 6 innings allowing only 3 runs and 4 hits while striking out 10. The seventh inning saw the return of the unfocused, error prone Knights defense. Three Knights errors led to a very nerve racking inning where the Bulldogs were able to plate 4 runs and get the tying run to secondbase. Luckily Mike Urtnowski had one more trick, well make that 2 outs up his sleeve.

* This is the first Knights win over a Division 1 opponent this season!

* The Knights STILL need defensive practice, as well as some individuals needing some HUSTLE!!

* Erstwhile Knights pitcher Jay Harmon, who racked up only 44 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings over three seasons, has struck out 52 batters in just 23 innings during his wildly successful transfer back to his original stickball roots. He is 4-0 with a 1.22 ERA in 4 starts for the Pier Street Pressure of the Major Stickball League in New York City. He has allowed just 10 hits and 7 walks.
