Game Summary

An Old Foe, Mr. Error, Keeps the Knights from Winning 2

After a few schedule changes the Knights played two games on Saturday night. The first game was against the Division 1 PAL Seminoles at Suffolk College in Selden at 5:45 pm. Joe Lankford took the mound and once again pitched a tremendous game going all 7 innings giving up only 2 hits and 1 earned run. Unfortunately unearned runs, 10 Knights errors throughout the game, allowed the Seminoles to take a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. In the bottom of the inning John Bosch led off with a walk, Ryan Cox singled, then the new Knights "masher", Hector Rolon stepped up to the plate and smashed a 3 run homer to tie the game, which is where the game ended. Other offensive highlights included Eric Cox going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases and Tommy Reilly going 3 for 4 with a single, double, and triple.

Game 2, an 8:30 pm start at Birchwood Park against the LI Cardinals, featured Tommy Reilly on the mound and a fairly potent, 10 runs scored, 11 man lineup. The Knights scattered runs throughout the game scoring in all but 2 innings. Sean McGuire led the game off with a homerun, then the Jessica proclaimed game MVP, Richie Cave, extended the lead with a third inning solo homerun to once again give the Knights a one run lead. Other offensive highlights included Tommy Reilly continuing his hit onslaught going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Ryan Cox going 2 for 3 with a double, and Billy Vogt going 2 for 2 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.

The Knights took the field in the bottom of the seventh with a 10-4 lead, bad things followed. A homerun from the Cardinals best hitter Donnie Nogiewich led off the inning, then a fly out, a walk and a single, then a 3 run homer brought the score to 10-8. This is when the Knights seemed to lose it. An error, a ground out, a single, then a second error and finally 4 batters too late manager Paxton Provitera relieved Tommy Reilly with Dan O'Shea with the score 10-9. With Donnie Nogiewich up again, careful pitching loaded the bases with a walk, and then a final error, the seventh of the game allowed both the tying and winning runs to score.
