Knights win 3 over the weekend

Once again Knights' pitching proved to be too much for the opposition to handle. Friday night at Birchwood Park the Knights faced a new opponent, the LI Yankees. Joe Lankford, the 6 ft. 4 in. 260 lb. right handed fireballer, was given the ball and no hits were to follow. Striking out 10 through the full 5 innings of the 17-1 win, Joe made his presence known to the enitire Stan Musial league.

Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader against the LI Cardinals at CYA field, amidst undertones of little league hostility, Knights' pitching once again dominated. The first game saw Rob Maier recording his second win "throwing" a full game (3 innings). The second game was Dan O'Shea's 2002 pitching debut, first win of the year, and ninth consecutive victory as a Knight with no losses. A close game the whole way, finally ended by the Knights' self proclaimed "closer" Tom Reilly.

Most importantly these games seemed to jumpstart the sluggish offense with an output of 32 hits and 41 runs. Leading this offensive onslaught were Tommy Reilly, 6 for 8 with a homerun, 3 walks and scoring 6 runs; Pat Conway, 7 for 10 with 7 RBI's; Matt Eggert, 4 for 8 with a homerun and 5 RBI's; Dan O'shea showing his power with his first homerun as a Knight; and J.J. Sodaro scoring 6 runs.
