Game Summary

Knights get "rained out" on a sunny 96 degree day, then split with former MABL foe the LI Orioles.

On the verge of heading to Chicago for a Fourth of July Tournament, the Knights were scheduled to tune up with 2 doubleheaders, one Saturday and one Sunday, at LaSalle Academy. Unfortunately there was 30 minutes of heavy rain on Friday night so Saturday was a washout, and only because of 4 hours of hard labor from Manager Paxton Provitera and Pitcher Rob Maier with some help from left fielder Bobby Gruttadauria was the field ready for play at 3pm on Sunday.

Game 1 seemed to be going the Knights' way with Rob Maier pitching a gem into the 5th inning and the Knights offense providing some pop. By the bottom of the 5th inning the score was 5-2 in favor of the Knights on a 3 run homerun in the first from the awaken bat of John Bosch and 2 solo shots from Tommy Reilly and Hector Rolon. The bottom of the 5th was the Knights' undoing, when the Orioles took advantage of 3 errors to score 5 runs and take a lead of 7-5 that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Game 2 was a different type of game in many ways. The Knights went from 3 homeruns to 0, 0 stolen bases (the first time that's happened this season) to 5, and 6 errors to 1, which all combined to give the Knights a win. Tommy Reilly took the mound and had complete control of the game allowing only 3 hits and 1 run. The offense was timely and a total team effort. Highlights included Sean McGuire going 1 for 2 with 2 walks, scoring 3 runs, and stealing 4 bases (the third time this year a Knight has tied the stolen base record and the third year in a row Sean has accomplished this feat); Pat Conway walking 4 times (another Knights record) and scoring 3 times; and the rest of the team getting hits with men on base, being aggressive on the bases and being patient at the plate to keep the Orioles on their heals.

The second game is a great stepping point for the Chicago Tournament. Let's use this victory as a layout for all our WINS in Chicago and let's bring home the trophy!!
