Game Summary

Knights Sweep Their Division(s) Rival The LI Cardinals!

Finally after a week-long layoff the Knights retook the field to play the LI Cardinals in a doubleheader on Sunday evening. Uncharacteristically, the Knights had an entire team on the field with 30 minutes to go until game time...of course 5 Knights were still on the way and arrived at "Knights' Time" 2 minutes before the start. On this night it was the opponent that had the worrying to do, as the Cardinals only had 8 players when the single umpire was ready to start. Luckily the ninth Cardinal arrived and no one had to be killed, now on to the game...

Dan O'Shea took the holes, ahhh..."mound", and proceeded to hit 2 batters, walk 4, scatter 5 hits but allow only 1 earned run to win his fourth game of the year bringing his personal season record over .500. Behind Dan, the Knights had one semi-explosive inning scoring 4 runs. Pat Conway led off with a double and was knocked in to tie the game when Ryan Cox and Hector Rolon had back-to-back singles. The inning continued with Bobby Molinaro and Sean McGuire walking then Eric Cox knocked them both in with a 2 RBI single. These runs were enough for Dan who at one point declared, "I want a no hitter tonight. I may accidentally hit a lot of them doing it, but I want a no hitter!"

Game 2 featured Billy Vogt who was fresh off his first win of the season and a full week of rest. Billy threw a gem. Vogt allowed only 3 hits with no earned runs and finally got some run support, even though it came late. The top of the first seemed like dejavu when Pat Conway doubled, stole third and scored on the overthrow and then Tommy Reilly did the same exact thing. The top of the second saw Hector Rolon single, and the Knights do something odd...BUNT...Dan O'Shea did the job moving Hector to second and the move worked when Bobby Molinaro doubled down the line to score the Knights third run of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals reached base on two errors and scored 2 unearned runs bringing the score to 3-2. Other than a quick boot by the umpire who had it out for Pat, the Knights offense was uneventful until the top of the seventh. With Bobby Molinaro and Sean McGuire drawing walks and 2 outs, Tommy Reilly increased the Knights 3-2 lead to 5-2 with his, Knights' game record, third double of the game. John Bosch then step to the plate, as his parents tail lights turned the corner, and hit his, Knights season record, tenth homerun of the year, bringing the score to 7-2. The game ended with a quick 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.
