Knights Come out Swinging!

In the season opener, a doubleheader at Newfield High School, the New York Knights were able to hold off a tenacious Brentwood Brewer team. The Knights started where they left off by exploding for 4 quick runs before the whole team was even at the field. The offensive heroes of the day, Bobby Gruttadauria, Hector Rolon, and Pete Alfano, were just that from start to finish, driving in 10 runs and scoring another 7 runs on 6, 4 and 3 hits, respectively. John Bosch, Ryan Cox, and Tommy Reilly always seemed to be on base with 5, 3, and 3 walks, respectively.

Even though the score doesn't reflect it, pitching was a major key in the Knights' victories. After some shaky starts where Knights' pitching allowed 7 earned runs in 3 innings, Knights' pitching took over the games allowing only 4 earned runs throughout the remaining 11 innings. Jordan Cox got his first opportunity as a Knight when he took the ball in the second inning of game 1. After 5 strong innings toward his first Knights' win and allowing only 1 earned run, Jordan passed the ball to Dan O'Shea. Dan proceeded to collect his first Knights save. In game 2 Tommy Reilly came in to the third inning allowing only 3 earned runs over the final 5 innings collecting his first win of the season.
